10.29.03 - Greetings From Dexter! Hey Kids what's up? I know Noodles is usually the one you hear from with the tour journals and what not, but I'm gonna make an effort here. It's been a while now, I know, but we've been pretty busy finishing up our record. That's what I want to talk about, our new CD! I'm totally pumped. I can't wait for you guys to hear it. They tell me our release date is December 9 in the US, and about the same elsewhere. We worked really hard on this record to make it the best we possibly could, and I'm really stoked and proud of the way it turned out. It may seem like a long time since our last CD, but I hope you guys will think it was worth the wait. The album, as you probably know, is called Splinter, and this is what the track listing looks like: 1) Neocon 2) The Noose 3) Long Way Home 4) Hit That 5) Race Against Myself 6) (Can't Get My) Head Around You 7) The Worst Hangover Ever 8) Never Gonna Find Me 9) Lightning Rod 10) Spare Me The Details 11) Da Hui 12) When You're in Prison Why call the album Splinter? Because it seems like our records with one-word titles do better. Americana, Smash, people seem to be into those records more. That, and having song titles with words in parentheses seems to be a good idea too, I'm not sure why. See, we've really put a lot of thought into this! You may have heard our single, Hit That, on the radio. We really wanted to put that song out as a first single because we thought that it sounds like us for sure, but it has some different sounds that we haven't done before. To me it sounds like a song with a hip hop verse and a punk chorus. I know some people are saying wow, what the hell, when they first hear it, but I like that. You gotta mix it up, you know what I'm saying? And for those of you who worry that we might have gone soft, don't worry. There's plenty of fast punk stuff on this record. The Noose, Long Way Home, Never Gonna Find Me, Lightning Rod, and Da Hui are all fast and ripping. And there's some heavy stuff too, like Race Against Myself and Head Around You. And then there's some surprises too, I'll let you figure out whichones those are. People have been asking what our touring plans are, and the answer is, we're not sure yet! Basically, we try to go everywhere at least once, and that's not easy. What I can tell you is that we're gonna be in Europe from November 8 to November 22 doing some interviews and some 'secret' club gigs. After that, we'll do a short US tour from November 29 to December 13 starting in Cleveland I think, and ending in Los Angeles. After the holidays we'll head back to Europe for most of January to do headlining shows. And that's as much as I can tell you, really. I'm sure we'll do a couple tours in the US. We'll go to Japan and Australia as well. I'll bet Canada will get to see us too. We'll try to stop by South America this time, since we missed you guys last time. The summer festivals in Europe are always fun, so we'll probably do some of those, and who knows? Maybe even some Warp dates might be in the cards. See, before you know it, it's gonna be Christmas '04 and people are gonna be saying, "How come it's been so long since you guys put out a record?" 11.24.03 - Lyrics to the New Album Splinter! Punk rock band The Offspring is changing the name of their new disc, acknowledging that the decision to title the album Chinese Democracy had somehow caused production to come to a halt. The Offspring have hooked up with their friend Josh Freese (A Perfect Circle, The Vandals) to play on the new record which will still be released this year.
