Dexter's Road Journals: 02/21/06 - Huntington Beach Well today I‘m making stuff happen around Nitro. You all probably know that I have a record label called Nitro Records and I put out bands that I like. We‘ve got records by some great new bands coming out in the next few months that you should check out, if you‘re into that sort of thing. Most of these bands aren‘t well known yet, but they‘re really good and I liked them enough to sign them, so is that enough of an endorsement? Before summer, we‘re gonna be putting out records by No Trigger, Crime In Stereo, Hit The Switch, Much the Same, and Exene and the Original Sinners, who aren‘t a new band, but are awesome just the same. You can check them out on www.nitrorecords.com or myspace or whatever. I‘m gonna go to Phoenix tonight to see A Wilhelm Scream play. This band is seriously awesome. And I‘m not just saying that cause they‘re on my label. If you haven‘t heard of them, you will for sure, these guys are coming up strong. And if you‘re in Phoenix, come find me at the show. I‘ll be the one wearing sunglasses and a mustache. \02/15/06 - Huntington Beach Last week I went out of town to meet with a guy who might produce our next record. I thought it went really well. Right now we‘re just kind of in that mode of figuring out what the next record is gonna be like, and writing songs. Why don‘t you guys write in and tell us what you think? The version of Dirty Magic we recorded last year is an electric version with drums. That song is kind of special to us because it‘s one of those requests we always get from our most hardcore fans. Unfortunately, most people don‘t know the song, cause most people don‘t know our music from before Smash. We always thought that it was a good song, but that we could do a better job recording it now than we could back then. So we did it, and Atom played on it. It sounds great. I‘m not sure if it will come out someday or what. Maybe if you guys are really really nice… \02/07/06 - Huntington Beach Wow, you guys seemed to really enjoy the last post from me. Maybe we really should do this more often. I bugged Noodles a little bit to write something to put up also, but I don‘t think he‘s gotten around to it yet. I tried to tell him how much you guys would like it. Maybe you guys should write in and bug him about it. Well what‘s up this week? We went back in the demo studio last weekend, just Noodles and I, doing some guitar tracks. It was a blast. It feels good to get back in the studio and do some recording and just be a band, you know? I‘m sure you do if you‘re in a band. We knocked off early because it was Noodles‘ birthday (remember?) and he had some ragin‘ to do. People are asking us about possibly doing some festivals in Europe this summer, which would be fun, but we thought it would be better to stay home and work on songs for another record. What do you think? Well, I guess that‘s it for now. Oh yeah, did I tell you guys that we re-recorded Dirty Magic last year? Dexter. \02/01/06 - Huntington Beach So what‘s all this we‘re hearing from you guys about us not writing to the website enough?! Yeah, we know. We check up on you guys and see what you‘re writing on our BBS. The reason we haven‘t been writing in is because we‘re too busy with our drug binges, therapy sessions and sushi lunches to contribute. What kind of band guys would we be if we hung out on our website all the time? I don‘t think you would respect us. Ok just kidding. We‘ve been enjoying a little time off after touring for most of late last year. We‘re gonna try to check in a little more now though, so hang in there. Today we decided to get together and do some recording. We‘ve got our own little studio here in Huntington, and we felt like doing a song. It‘s been really cool today hanging out with Greg K, Noodles and Atom and just laying down some tracks. I‘m not sure whether what we‘re doing today will end up on a record or what, but we‘re just doing it cause it‘s fun. Other than that, we‘re just writing songs for our next record and having a good time being at home for awhile. Thanks for checking in and we‘ll keep you posted. Dexter. 08/18/05 - Warp tour is over! Huntington Beach, CA: It‘s hard to believe that the warped tour is finally done. This was a long tour, two months, but it went by fast. I think we did 45 shows this summer, which is probably a record for us! I think the best part of the tour is getting to hang out with so many other bands and cool people working on the tour. We made a lot of new friends on the tour and got to see a lot of great bands. If you went to a warped show, then you already know about all that. We want to thank all the other bands for being so cool on the tour. With about 70 bands playing everyday and hundreds of bands playing throughout the course of the tour, it was impossible to meet everyone, but we had a great time with those we were able to hang out with. We counted the other day, and I think we took 16 bands on the plane this trip. We think everyone was stoked, and no one got hurt! Thanks to the Transplants, Avenged Sevenfold, Rufio, MXPX, Mest, The Bled, Rancid, Simple Plan, Strung Out, No Use For A Name, The Vandals, Thrice, A Wilhelm Scream, Millencolin, Bedouin Soundclash, and Valient Thorr for taking a flight with us. This warped tour turned out to be the biggest warped tour to date. More people came to the shows than ever before. They tell us we played in front of 666,000 people this summer over the two months of the tour. That‘s pretty insane when you think about it, that we were able to play in front of so many people. All in all, it was a great experience for us this summer. Thanks to everyone for coming out to the shows! Peace out Dexter. 10.20.04 - Sao Paulo, Brazil Hey everybody, what‘s going on? We just got done with the show tonight in Sao Paulo. It was great. Brazil is one place we really look forward to coming to because the crowds are insane! Must be a football/soccer thing. It still amazes us that we can come to a place so far away, where we don‘t speak the language, and still have such great shows. So far we‘ve been to Buenos Aires and Porto Alegre. The tour has been awesome, not to mention the beer. We had Brazilian barbeque here with so many kinds of meat, I‘m not sure of everything I ate. Not for vegetarians, but if you are on Atkins, you‘ll love it. Nice people and great weather here too. This is our third time in South America and it never lets us down. Six shows to go and we‘re looking forward to it. This is our last official tour on this record, so we will be home soon for a while. But thanks to all of you who came out and saw us – it was an incredible year. I can‘t believe we‘ve been to twenty five countries. If you missed us, fly to Orange County on Nov. 14 and see us there. |
